The Blue Top Walkers group was formed over 25 years ago in 1988 and currently has approximately 80 members aged from their 50's to 90's.
We're a relaxed group of friendly, mature and social people, who simply enjoy getting together but with a focus on walking to keep fit. We aren't set up as a formally constituted "club", and have no officers, committees, rules or obligations (we like it that way....) There's plenty of both genders involved too! We walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 am from the Henderson Squash Club, 63 Buscomb Ave. (Map) where there's plenty of off-road parking, followed by coffee, tea and biscuits with a chat. Participants are requested to pay $2 per time to cover rental of the rooms, consumables and administration costs. Our walks are approximately 45 min - 1½ hours in various informal groups to match all abilities. We try to avoid roads, instead exploring the many formed walkways available. You'll be surprised by places you didn't know existed..... Once a month we have an away-walk around the wider Auckland area, often finishing with coffee or lunch at a cafe somewhere! Every second week we have a Social Time/Hobbies extension at the clubrooms. This runs from 11.00am - 2.00pm and the members share their skills or develop new interests. See the details page for more information. Throughout the year we try to plan various other activities for those who are interested - the "flicks", train trips, long weekends away, evenings at an RSA, Shows etc. |
